Winter colours can vary from soft, subtle tones to bright vivid hues.
Winter landscapes were produced by using black card, a limited range of ready mixed paint and oil pastels. Space was created by using a horizon line, receding paths and different sized mountains. Bright, winter days and dramatic, dark skies with the Northern lights captured the essence of the season.
Deer can be occasionally seen in the fields and woods of Nidderdale as well as on allotments! More neutral colours were investigated through collage techniques. One of the wonderful aspects of teaching art is how children interpret a given idea and make it their own. Their work is always less inhibited, spontaneous and energetic!
Collagraph is a printing technique that results in wonderful textural effects. Evergreen leaves and string were fastened to squared card that had double sided tape applied to it. Thick, acrylic paint was rolled over the reliefs and cartridge paper pressed on top, to create these leafy impressions.
We had a couple of new children attend today's workshop and it was really lovely to invite the more experienced members of our classes to teach them how to roll out slabs of clay. Twigs were snapped up to create either impressions of a tree or real life ones. Simple but effective. A friendly deer also joined in the fun!
